MK VI EOD BLAST JACKET
Ministry of Defence
2007
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) suits are designed to protect the wearer from the pressure generated by a bomb and any fragments it may produce, while allowing them to safely defuse the explosive device. The British Army unit responsible for IED (improvised explosive device) and
conventional munitions disposal is the 11 EOD & Search Regiment, which is part of the Royal Logistic Corps. The MK I EOD suit was developed in 1969 in response to the threat posed by Maoist terrorists in Hong Kong, followed by the MK II EOD in 1974 in response to the threat presented by
the IRA in Northern Ireland. This jacket is part of the current system, the MK V/VI EOD, which was introduced in 2004. It was designed by the Ministry of Defence in partnership with NP Aerospace.
